Knife 3

Wake Up Dead Man is the third film in the Knives Out series. Written and directed by Rian Johnson. Daniel Craig is back as Detective Benoit Blanc.

Blanc investigates the death of a divisive Catholic priest against the backdrop of a missing inheritance.

Glenn Close stars and gets to ACT. Josh Brolin is the Big Bad Priest, a smaller version of Thanos. Mila Kunis is the Police Chief and Jeremy Renner the Doctor.

This really is a cracking good movie, mainly due to the finely tuned script that has everything a murder mystery should have.

With a 92% critics score, 94% audience score and a dozen award nominations others would agree.

Citadel

Citadel is an American spy action television series created by Josh Appelbaum, Bryan Oh, and David Weil.

It stars Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra as secret agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh who, after being attacked by members of a rival agency and having their memories wiped, must reclaim their lost identities and fight back.

With a production budget of US$300 million, the six-episode first season ranks as one of the most expensive television series ever made.

The big budget can be seen on screen. From the travelouge scenery, the big set piece action sequences and CGI filling the screen. It’s just a pity some of that money wasn’t spent on the script.

It starts OK, with action on a train and the consequences of it crashing. Then we get Stanley Tucci explaining the plot, providing backstory and trying to be snarky but loveable.

The problems start in the fourth episode with a flashback. Then again in the fifth episode. All this ruins the momentum of the story and is not needed. Plus, all the fight scenes are just too long to be believable.
In comparison to…

I only got half-way through this.

Addicted Alien

“Alien Addiction” is a New Zealand sci-fi comedy that follows Riko, who develops an intergalactic relationship with two aliens after they crash-land near his home.

Strange, weird, dumb. For junkies only. The film garnered mixed reviews, some appreciated its quirky humor and unique premise, while others criticize it for a disjointed script and reliance on crude jokes. The film is described as having a cult classic potential, with some praising its classic Kiwi humor and entertaining performances, particularly from the cast. However, it has also faced criticism for its simplistic comedy and character development.

Rip

The Rip is a 2026 American action thriller film written and directed by Joe Carnahan.

It stars Matt Damon and Ben Affleck as police officers in the Miami-Dade Police Department narcotics unit.

The film is inspired by the true story of Miami-Dade County Sheriff Chris Casiano. This film tells the story of a group of police officers who, during a raid on a hidden cash operation, find their trust broken down as team members suspect each other of trying to steal a large sum of cash.

You know that plot-onium will protect Damon & Affleck until the end. And just to prove it. they do reckless things, like not taking cover when they should. There is plenty of action and intrigue, but the bad guys quickly reveal themselves. So, it’s only a matter of when things will end, not how or why.

Unknown Dylan

A Complete Unknown is a 2024 American biographical film about the early career of American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan. Directed by James Mangold, written by Mangold and Jay Cocks, and loosely based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald.

This covers the period of 1961–1965, beginning with Dylan’s start as an American folk singer, and ending with his controversial use of electric instruments at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival.

Dylan is portrayed by Timothée Chalamet, who also produced the film.

Edward Norton – I couldn’t believe it was him; he looks a lot older and plays Pete Seeger.

Also included is Peter Yarrow (Peter, Paul & Mary), Al Kooper, Woody Guthrie, Jonny Cash and Joan Baez.

It comes across as a by-the-numbers bio-pick.

Sung Blue

Song Sung Blue is a 2025 American biographical musical drama film written, co-produced, and directed by Craig Brewer. It is based on the 2008 documentary film of the same name by Greg Kohs. The film stars Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson as Mike and Claire Sardina, who performed as the Neil Diamond tribute band Lightning & Thunder.

The film starts off well, with lots of Neil Diamond songs and a general positive tone as the duo get better. Then at the half-way point things take a dark turn. It’s a while before it picks up with some concert performances. Jackman seems too old for the role, but he can sing. And Kate Hudson does a good job. Recommended for fans, just skip the middle section.

Alien: Covenant

Guidance for designers in the aliens universe.

If you are going to make a series of androids, don’t make them all look the same. People may not be able to tell the difference between the working and defective ones.

When storing 2,000 bodies, put them on a horizontal position so they don’t have anywhere to fall.

When designing a spacecraft to transport 2,000 people to a new world, build more than one personnel dropship.

Before investigating a planet closer to earth than the one you are going to, check your database of planets and ask why they skipped this one.

Before you land on an alien planet, be sure to scan it thoroughly, especially with thermal imaging cameras. If there is lots of vegetation, but no animals, maybe stay away.

If it is dangerous to get closer to a planet than 80km, having two crew members agree does not make it any safer.

When going to an Alien vs Human fight, take more than a knife.

Cryochambers should have an emergency button on the inside, so you can get out.

If something looks dangerous, prod it with a stick. Don’t put your face in it.

Do not use Tesla “Armor Glass” on spacecraft, a sharp object may break it.

You should be able to spot a C shaped alien craft from the air, don’t land 6km from it. Try the flat land next to the craft.
