Bob’s Mods

With all of Bob’s Factorio Mods implemented, this makes for an insane level of complexity.

Now there are multiple levels of everything. More minerals and more chemistry. The number of recipies is about three times the base game.

At first this is intriguing and interesting, getting grips with the complexity.

But after 50+ hours, it becomes tiresome. Forever trying to balance supply routes and work out how to make more and more exotic things.

There are some things that make sense:

  Making Glass

  Wood manufacturing for circuits.

The initial slow belts (similar speed to Lignumis wooden ones)

Some of the chemical processes, especially electrolisis

But in the end this just becomes a slog to get through.

There are some thing that would help

 1. Making the requestor boxes available earlier.

 2. Sticking to old methods for making Rocket Fuel and concrete.

Krastorio

Krastorio 2

Is a mod for Factorio, adding numerous new buildings, items, technologies, and mechanics to the game.

More than 300 new and unique icons (not re-skinned variations)
This gives the game a more modern look (with the exception of the train)

Over 40 new buildings – mostly advances on the base ones.
Over 100 new technologies – Almost overwhelming.

Radioactivity: Uranuim will now kill you. While difficult at first, with some shields it becomes maneagable.

Imersite: A mined resource used in many advanced recipes.

Mineral Water: Water impregnated with various silts and dusts from the planet’s surface. Used primarily in the production of lithium.

Rare Metals: An analogous representation of various rare elements (i.e. titanium, platinum, gold).

Science progression has been majorly overhauled. Instead of science packs, you produce tech cards that are inserted into research computers. There are three tiers of tech card, each of which require their own laboratories.

A lot of the additions add to the complexity and challenges.
The chemistry has been expanded, with nitrogen extractors, electrolizers and more processes to understand.
This works best on Fulgaro. In the base game, you end up with a lot of materials to handle or destroy. I added the Memory Store to deal with the excesses. But in Krastorio the recipie for rocket fuel changes, now requirint
the use of water to created oxygen. This changes Fulgaro from being a planet that abounds in resources to one where water is precious as it’s needed for multiple processes.

Later on, the Matter conversion can be used to change the excess stone to water.

Gleba is mainly unhanged, but the additional recipies make producing the rocket parts easier.

Also Vulcanus works the same way.

Aquillio benefits most from the matter conversion. Ice can be transformed into materials for rocket parts.

The matter conversion is an interesting add-on. It’s a vital part of one of the science packs, and can help
balancing resources. But could have been easily designed out of the game.

A lot of the advanced machines – assemblers, chemical factory, inserters are handy in tight spots.
But by the time you get them, the factory is well established and they are generally unnecessary.

You do get teleportation, but then it’s almost the end of the game.

It’s a great addition to Factorio, I really like the design that brings producion closer to real-world physics and engineering. But it still makes no sense for the Agriculture science to degrade. I ended up adding a module to extend the shelf-life x1,000.

As for the end.
This extends the game past just getting to the outer galaxy. Now you have to go further, collect new asteroids
and climb another 10k+ science tree to get to the end.

This looked like a real slog, so I ended the game at the same point as the base game; getting to the outer rim.

Lignumis

Lignumis

This mod acts as a prequel to Factorio Space Age by putting you on the moon “Lignumis” before you escape to Nauvis. It concentrates on wood and steam technologies, giving some early game production chains for those resources.

There are slow early slow bots using steam science.

There are wooden belts that are cheap and can be used for those low throughput applications to the end of the game.

New buildings include a lumber mill and agricultural tower.

The Lignumis plastic recipe can be used on other planets just wood and water.

Nutrients from wood pulp can be used on all planets for easy nutrients production.

Lignumis orbit has increased amounts of astroids that also have an even distribution. That makes it ideal to jumpstart new space ships and for production platforms.

You can even use the planet’s gold in electronic circuits.

The best thing about a prequel is that it does not need to add a lot of extra stuff to the end of the game.

A reccomended mod.

3 Minutes

3 Minutes to Midnight

Somewhere in 1940’s America an explosion shatters the night. Everyone wakes up with a jolt. Where are they? Who are they? It turns out that whatever blew up in the desert seems to have done more than just wipe their memories clean.

You can see where this game gets its inspiration, Lucas Arts, Monkey Island, Sierra (all those 1990’s classic adventures). And for a large part it succeeds. Main protagonist Berry is snarky, witty and a danger to all around her. You get to control her through most of the game. About 50-60 percent of the puzzles are logical and solvable.

But then, near the end things get worse. One puzzle kept me halted for days. They designed the game to have multiple solutions, but some are very obscure without a walkthrough. Then there is a long fight sequence that I followed according to the walkthrough but kept failing, without explanation

In the end, I could not complete the game. Most frustrating.

Diablo 3

Diablo III is a 2012 action role-playing game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment as the third installment in the Diablo franchise.

Set 20 years after the events of Diablo II, players control one of seven character classes – Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk, Necromancer, Witch Doctor, or Wizard – and are tasked with defeating Diablo.

Starting with the main quest is not advised, but I did it anyway with a Wizard. Played in ‘normal’ I got through to the end with only a few re-tries on the Boss battles. Near the end it was necessary to switch to adventure mode to reach Level 70, the maximum.

This really is a fun game to play. The isometric perspective is fixed, so there is no messing around with swivelling the landscape. The structures and obstacles just melt away to enable vision on the characters.

However, after finished the main game and getting into adventure mode each quest gets to be very similar. And I’m sure I repeated a few.

But still work the price.

Diablo 3

Level 70 and completed Campaign with a female magician. It was the default when I tried the demo. Then the purchased game picked up on the demo and I ran with it to the end !

Factorio

Time has been broken, distorted and has no meaning.

Is it 10pm, 11pm or 2am ?

This is what happens when you play Factorio. One of the best designed games in history (not that times matters – it could be from the future)

Because of this bloody game I stopped reading and posting on a daily basis. That’s been happening since Jan 2016. Almost nine years, 3,288 posts.

Things have to change. Could I stop playing Factorio ?

Of course not !!!

So posts will no longer be daily. And one again, time will be distorted. A post with a December date could have been posted in January. And they could be not in any type of order.
